Reality Check with Mike Eppel

Mike discusses whether socialism lives up to the ideals made by its proponents, such as reducing poverty, facilitating fairness, and promoting freedom. While socialism claims that it will achieve these noble ideals, the reality is that it accomplishes the opposite. 

Mike discusses how certain biological systems are irreducibly complex, meaning that their structure cannot be simplified without destroying their ability to function. The fact that such systems exist in nature poses a major challenge to evolutionary theory, which argues that life became gradually complex through small changes over time. The question is, how does one gradually arrive at a system that cannot be simplified? 

Mike discusses the principles enshrined in the founding documents of the United States and assesses whether or not those principles are compatible with a socialist system of government. 

Mike invites his wife, Katie, to join him on the podcast to discuss a post made by the popular YouTuber, Jesse Ridgway, in defense of his decision to abort his baby with Down Syndrome. While many people claim that they are opposed to denying rights to those with disabilities, they frequently deny the right to life to unborn babies on the basis of their disability. 

After the recent Supreme Court ruling of Trump vs. Barbara, which upheld birthright citizenship for anyone born on U.S. soil, Mike discusses the merits of the decision made by the Supreme Court to assess its validity. 

Mike introduces “Reality Check” as a podcast which seeks to examine cultural trends to see how well they measure up to reality. He defends Christianity as the best foundation for discerning real from unreal because it is consistently able to explain the world in a logically and experientially coherent manner.
